What to look out for in an Ultra portable

Ultra-portables are designed for road warriors-mobile professionals who travel constantly and need enough computing power with them at all times.

Features:

Ultra portables typically sport 12 inches screen and small keyboards, although some models do feature full sized keyboards. Most of these systems come with display that range from 10.6 to 12.1 inches.

  • Keep a tab on the price tag as this is the most sorted after and most expensive of notebook categories.
  • Check for latest technologies, good dimensions and weight, Wi-Fi features, no compromise on performance.
  • Keep away from: cramped keyboards, uncomfortable keypads, lack of ports and less connectivity options.
  • Ultra portables rank high in aesthetics. Its all about style, looks and performance, packed with as many features as possible in the small frame.
  • Check the chassis and the overall build quality of the notebook. The notebooks is supposed to be glamorous but not at the expense of looking cheap or plasticky.
  • Since the screen size is generally small, make sure the screen gives good resolution and good color reproduction.
  • Most notebooks packed with DVD burners, especially the latest models in the market, whilst some offer external variants.
  • Highly recommended: latest features like enhanced battery saving modes or power management options. Can go a long way in providing you the extra battery life required during those long hours of business travel.
